Can I Have my Property Left out of Mosquito Spraying?

You asked how to get your property left out of mosquito spraying, and here's how you do it.

An area of Beverly will be sprayed with an adulticide on Thursday night to kill mosquitoes, after a positive test for West Nile Virus from a pool of mosquitoes.

Some residents, though, don’t want their property sprayed and asked on Beverly Patch and Facebook on Wednesday about how to get their property removed.

Bill Burke, the Beverly Director of Public Health, said that technically residents need to opt out in late winter and spring, “but the mosquito control district will try to accommodate people.”

The law says that to be excluded residents should send a certified letter to the city clerk by March 1 of each year, and adds, “after March 1, Mosquito Control Projects will still try to accommodate requests.”

The mosquito control district needs time to enter the exempted addresses into its system and onboard computers and Burke said the sooner that the mosquito district is contacted, the better chance that it will be in time. Their phone number is 978-463-6630.
