Special Election Set For February

The Beverly City Council on Monday set Saturday, Feb. 8 as the date for a citywide election on the rezoning of land along Brimbal Avenue.

The election will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Beverly High School fieldhouse for all wards in the city.

The decision to hold a citywide election came after 3,598 petition signatures were certified, exceeding the required 12 percent of registered voters, 3,052, that was required.

The City Council also reaffirmed its earlier vote, 7-2, to rezone a 2.5 acre parcel of land near exit 19 off Route 128. The rezoning would allow the land to be swapped with CEA Group to allow the company to build a shopping plaza while the state would reconstruct a connector road between Sohier Road and Brimbal Avenue further from the highway.

Voters will now decide whether to affirm the rezoning to Industrial overlay or to keep the existing Industrial zoning in place.
