Beverly's libertarian candidate Daniel Fishman announced the immediate suspension of his senate campaign late Sunday night. A press release from his campaign said Fishman will not be submitting signatures to the Secretary of State for placement on the ballot in advance of the April 3rd deadline. Fishman said when he first entered this campaign in early February there were no Republicans officially announced and the three most prominently mentioned Republicans had all removed their names as potential candidates. "I was concerned that given the short period of time to gather signatures no Republican would be able to get on the ballot, and the Senator for Massachusetts would be chosen via the closed Democratic primary," he said in a release…

Congressmen Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch, the two Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate, have agreed to participate in six debates between now and the April 30 primary, according to the Boston Herald. The Boston Herald’s Chris Cassidy tweeted that three of the debates will be general format, with the remaining three focusing on jobs, domestic issues and foreign policy. One of the debates will be held in Boston, and others will be held in Lowell, New Bedford, Worcester and Springfield. The location of the sixth debate has not been determined. Former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez will officially launch his U.S. Senate campaign on Thursday and Friday, according to the Boston Herald. Gomez, a Republican from Cohasset, will run for the seat vacated by new Secretary of State John Kerry. His campaign kicks off Thursday with events in Boston and Springfield, according to the Herald. Friday will bring more events on the North and South shores, though the Herald didn’t specify any venues or times. Gomez, known for evading the spotlight, will also likely stop for several “meet-and-greet” events with local leaders and supporters during those two days. Fishman, a Beverly resident, garnered more than 16,000 votes in the 6th Congressional District election last fall. This has been an unusually high-profile congressional race in Massachusetts, which is considered a stronghold for House Democrats. Beverly's libertarian congressional candidate has been left out of a debate, and he's not backing down.
Libertarian congressional candidate Daniel Fishman has filed a complaint against WCVB with the Federal Elections Commission. WCVB is planning a 6th District congressional candidates' debate on Thursday, and Fishman was not invited because he did not meet their criteria: A candidate must have a certain number of staff members, a daily campaign schedule, communicate on a regular basis with news media, garner at least 10 percent in two recent independent polls and have campaign contributions of at least $50,000. Fishman's complaint alleges that WCVB's criteria are in violation of FEC guidelines. First, the FEC mandates that a station use "pre-established criteria" to determine who is allowed to participate.
