Fireworks and Superstars on Stage All Part of Weekend Plans

1. HOMECOMING FIREWORKS

Where/When: Lynch Park, Independence Park and other waterfront locations; Sunday, 9 p.m.

Why Go: The fireworks that traditionally bring Homecoming to an end are always an early August treat. Come down to Lynch Park early to hear some live music all afternoon or check out the goofy cardboard boat race at 3 p.m.

Pricing: Free

2. 26th ANNUAL FIREFIGHTER 5-MILE ROAD RACE

Where/When: Hamilton Fire Station; Saturday, 10 a.m., registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

Why Go: This 5-mile race through Hamilton has become a summertime tradition which helps raise money for the the Hamilton Fire Department Relief Association, which goes toward helping fallen firefighters and their family. Teams of three firefighters from the same department can compete for the team trophy.

Pricing: $30

3. LEARN HOW TO FISH AT ENDICOTT PARK

Where/When: Endicott Park, 57 Forest St., Danvers; Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: Learn how to be an angler. That's someone who likes to be surrounded by nature and catch a fish or two. The angler series at Endicott Park this summer is for ages four and up (must be accompanied by an adult) and it's free. You can learn proper fishing techniques, how to cast, how to tie a hook, what bait to use and where to use it, about pond habitats, interacting with the environment, patience, critical thinking skills, and likely a hobby you will enjoy for years to come. The next session is Aug. 11. Drop-in. You do have to sign this registration form and a signed waiver though.

Pricing: Weekend parking fee is $1 for residents and $3 for non-residents

4. THE CARRTUNES ARE JAZZIN' AT THE PARK SUNDAY

Where/When: Leather City Common, Peabody; Sunday, 6-8 p.m.

Why Go: The fifth installment in the city's free summer concert series features local jazz band The Carrtunes. The band plays everything from big bands to Dixieland. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy. The venue will be moved across the street to City Hall in case of inclement weather.

Pricing: Free

5. CELEBRITY CONCERT

Where/When: North Shore Music Theater; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: All sorts of stars, ranging from “America’s Got Talent” finalist Pete Peterkin to Dave Somerville, the original lead singer of The Diamonds, will take the stage at the Music Theater. 

Pricing: $40.50 to $55
