Motorcyclist Killed on Route 1A Identified

The man killed in a head-on crash on Route 1A in Wenham on Thursday has been identified.

The motorcyclist killed in a head-on crash on Route 1A in Wenham, just over the Beverly line, on Thursday was a 61-year-old North Andover man.

Steven Daly, 61, of North Andover was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a lumber delivery truck on Route 1A in Wenham near Great Pond Road at about 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, a spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s office. The DA’s office has taken over the investigation into the crash.

The road was shut down for about four hours and caused significant traffic congestion in North Beverly into the evening commute.

The lumber delivery truck involved in the crash was driven by a 60-year-old Gloucester man. He suffered minor injuries and after the crash was taken by Lyons ambulance to Beverly Hospital, where he was treated.

The cab of the truck, owned by Timberline Enterprises, burst into flames after the crash. Daly and the truck driver were the only two people involved in the crash.

“Currently, no criminal charges have been filed,” Kimball-Monahan said.

The crash is still under investigation by the Wenham Police Department and State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
