Police: Drunk Driver Hits, Injures Pedestrian on Atlantic Avenue

The following is an excerpt from the Beverly Police Department's log: 


Tuesday, March 11

  • At 4:15 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Cabot Street.
  • At 5:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a homeless person sleeping on Rantoul Street. A man was sent on his way.
  • At 5:21 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck and injured by a motor vehicle on Atlantic Avenue. Walter J. Oreicha, 51, of 18 Kingdom Terrace, Peabody, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 5:29 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on James Street. 
  • At 6:16 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Cabot and Pickett streets.
  • At 8:33 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Cabot Street.
  • At 9:21 p.m., police responded to a report of drug activity on Park Street. Glenn W. Burns, 45, of 24 Cedar St., Wakefield, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Wednesday, March 12

  • At 12:16 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Essex Street.
  • At 2:07 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint near the intersection of Cabot and Water streets.
  • At 8:20 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Essex Street.
  • At 11:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a man sleeping in a cemetery near the intersection of Hale and Lothrop streets. A man was sent on his way.
  • At 12:54 p.m., a Bow Street resident called police to report that someone stole their leafblower.
  • At 2:06 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in near the intersection of Park and Wallis streets.
  • At 3:46 p.m., police responded to a dispute between roommates on Cabot Street.

Other Arrest 

Nicole J. McIntyre, 36, of 333 Cabot St., Beverly, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
