Campaign Announcement

John Mullday is pleased to announce his candidacy for Ward 4 in the upcoming city election on Tuesday November 5. “I am proud and humbled to be once again running for City Council in Ward 4. I am running for the same reasons why my wife, Elizabeth, and I chose to move and start a family in Beverly,” Mullady explains. “When I look around Beverly I see a city that has a great sense of pride and community; a place that has a great sense of tradition, history, and values. Also, I see Beverly as a destination, somewhere to settle down and establish roots.”

And establishing roots is just what Mullady did. Originally from a middle class family in New York—Mullady is the son of a New York City Firefighter and Registered Nurse. The eldest of five siblings, Mullady’s leadership skills were instilled at an early age always listening, supporting and guiding his siblings. But it was from his parents where he learned the most valuable life lesson, “Treat others the way you want to be treated." This simple message has stayed with Mullady as he has witnessed how some developers act like Beverly neighborhoods don't have rights. “It really bothers me. I think at times that message gets lost with politicians, planners, and developers,” says Mullady. “I want to be the city councilman who is not just committed but also compassionate.”

In 2005, Mullady graduated Marist College. And more importantly, Marist is where he fell in love with his now wife and Wenham native—Elizabeth Mullady (formally Lucia). And although it was for love that he ended up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, his love for Beverly was palpable after exploring the charming city and learning more about this eclectic community. With great excitement the Mullady’s bought a home and settled in Beverly. In 2012, they welcomed their first son, John “Jack” Francis Mullady.

Locally, Mullady currently serves as an active member on the Beverly Planning Board where he has taken time, outside the hearings, to meet with concerned city residents. In addition, he serves on the Student Welcome Committee on Beverly Main Streets 30 & Main trying to recruit more college students to the city's downtown. Mullady also supports and is involved in the Cove Community Center, Montserrat Neighborhood Group, and Beverly Historical Society.

Mullady’s priority is Beverly. His platform is simple: Improve quality of life for residents. Improve Beverly.

Important goals for Mullady include:

·      Working with the new Mayor and other members of the City Council ensure that neighborhood concerns are being addressed.

·      Improving communication and the accessibility of council members to city residents by establish monthly Ward 4 open house meetings allowing for open discussion.

·      Establishing a "Town and Gown Committee" to improve the relationship between city residents and businesses and the local colleges and their students who reside in Beverly.

·      Supporting the continuing efforts to improve the City's Downtown.

·      Making sure that Beverly Schools are providing enrichment opportunities for its students and teachers.

Mullady can’t help but light up when he speaks about Beverly. His enthusiasm and passion for Ward 4 and the city are evident. “We have a special city. With thought and consideration, I want to help make it even better. Please support my efforts by electing me to manage current and future challenges in Beverly’s best interest.”

Outside Beverly, Mullady teaches 8th grade at Wellesley Middle School where he spent two years serving as one of the Building Representatives for the Massachusetts Teachers Association.  A student favorite and with an affection for history, Mullady’s warmth and calmness coupled with his positive attitude, and wily sense of humor make him a true asset in education.
