Kaminski Auctions Announces Winter Estate Auction

Kaminski Auctions announces its two-day Winter Estate Auction beginning on Saturday, February 9th. The sale will include over eight hundred lots of elegant jewelry, furnishings, and masterful works of art.

 Both days of auction will offer a number of important artworks.  Particularly notable are five works from several well-known landscape and impressionist artists.  An oil painting attributed to John Constable, from a Connecticut estate,  features cows and figures in a wooded clearing. A curator for the Bruce Museum appraised it in 1964 for $12,000. Today, it is estimated to sell for between $10,000 and $15,000.  Constable was a member of the Royal Academy and a central figure in the formation of an original British identity within the tradition of landscape painting.  Constable’s Romantic and Naturalist influence upon French artists can be seen in a piece carrying the signature of the French artist Ziem, also offered in the auction.  Lot 9111, a “Venetian Canal Scene” borrows Constable’s focus on the natural and accurate capturing of a brilliantly lit landscape. The skillfully rendered painting is signed “Zeim,” the name of a French Romanticist famous for his Venetian paintings, and is estimated to sell for between $6,500 and $10,000. 

The collector interested in scenes of rural life, such as those by Constable, might also be drawn to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century Dutch painting of a musician entertaining a shepherdess that will also be offered at the auction.  This quaint pastoral scene is estimated at $4,000 to $8,000. American trained impressionists will also take a place in the upcoming auction.  A Karl Albert Buehr painting stands among the top lots of the auction.  Appraisers have estimated this work to sell for between $4,000 and $6,000.  

A similarly impressionistic painting by the German Max Liebermann will also be auctioned at an estimated $3,000 and $5,000. Two works from the renowned British painter Brian Coole also appear among the top paintings of the auctions.  Both works feature American subject matter; the first painting to be offered depicts a twilight scene of ships in the Boston harbor and is estimated at $7,000 to $10,000.  The second, also offered on the first day of auction, illustrates a New York harbor scene and is predicted to fetch between $5,000 and $6,500. 

The estate auction will also feature an intriguingOld Master painting, attributed to Giacomo Frangelico.  The painting bears an exhibition label with the date 1861 from Florence, Italy, as well as a Medal of Distinction. The scene of two men interacting with an angel is set within a nineteenth century Florentine gilt frame.  This figural oil painting is estimate to sell for between $5,000 and $8,000. Fine jewelry also stars in this estate auction.  

A stunning 5.11 Carat fancy light brown diamond set between two baguette diamonds on a platinum band features as the top lot of the auction.  This gorgeous ring carries an estimate of $25,000 to $28,000 for the sale.  Along with other fine jewelry, two elegantly designed ruby rings are also among the most anticipated lots of the sale.  The first ring, set with 10 round brilliant diamonds on a size 7 ¼ band is estimated at $9,000 to $11,000. The other, set in 18K yellow gold with twenty-four near colorless round brilliant diamonds on a 5 ¼ size band, has an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000.

 A Hublot watch, offered as Lot 8098 at $10,000 to $15,000, is of particular interest in this auction to those seeking fine timepieces.  This gentleman’s “Big Bang” chronograph watch features an 18K brushed rose gold bezel, case, and buckle with a rubber watch band.  The face is spotted with multiple subdials, accented by the signature Hublot “H” style screws. 

In addition to these quality examples of fine jewelry and painting, the auction will also present a number of noteworthy pieces of furniture, including three eighteenth century pieces. An eighteenth century Dutch marquetry walnut cabinet in the sale with a bellflower inlay and bonnet top has an estimate of $3,000 to $6,000. A china cabinet from the same country and period will also be offered in auction for $2,000 and $4,000.  A pair of important nineteenth century French cabinets will also be of interest to furniture buyers.  Both are signed “F Keller Paris” and have Bacchus carvings accompanied by carvings of fluted columns, swings and drapes.  These cabinets are estimated to sell for between $3,000 and $5,000.
