Beverly's 'Pizza Mayor' Also Decided on Tuesday

The Beverly High School senior class crowned the best pizza in Beverly at Tuesday's Pizza Fest.

Voters chose a new mayor for Beverly city government on Tuesday, but they also chose a new mayor of the Beverly pizza world.

Freeda’s Pizza and Calzone emerged on top at the 13th annual Pizza Fest at Beverly High School, based on votes from diners who paid $7 each for unlimited samples of pizza from 15 different pizza restaurants in Beverly. The event was a fundraiser for the Beverly High School Class of 2014.

Second place went to Little Italy and third place went to Mike’s Pizzeria.

Participating pizza restaurants also included Maria's Pizza, Prides Deli and Pizzeria, Harry's Pizza and Deli, Ariston Pizza and Grill, Domino's Pizza, Luigi’s Pizzeria, Neapoli Pizzeria, Papa Gino's, Bertucci’s, Prinzi's Gourmet Pizza, North Beverly Roast Beef and Seafood and Three Star Pizza.

Two of the top three finishers were new businesses – both Freeda’s and Mike’s have opened since last year’s Pizza Fest. Little Italy is a longtime Beverly favorite.

“Thanks to our awesome staff, thank you Beverly,” Freeda’s tweeted afterward.
