Officer Injured in Cruiser Crash

A Beverly police officer was injured on Tuesday afternoon when his cruiser was involved in a crash at a downtown intersection.

Beverly firefighters used the Jaws of Life to cut the officer out of cruiser 903 after the crash at the intersection of Elliott and Rantoul streets.

The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. and also involved a white Honda Acord. The condition of the Honda's driver was not immediately known, but damage to the cruiser was more significant.

One witness, who did not want to give her name, said the cruiser was headed southbound on Rantoul Street with its lights and sirens on and the Honda was headed east on Elliott Street.
