Band That Rocked Cabot Street Deals With Member's Death

A Beverly-based band that rocked the city's first-ever block party earlier this summer is coping with the loss of its bass player.

Caspian, the Beverly-based band with fans worldwide who rocked Cabot Street this summer for the city's first-ever block party, is coping with the death of its bassist.

The band announced the death of Chris Friedrich this week on its Facebook page. The cause of death was not made public.

On Saturday night, the band will play a tribute to its late bassist in a concert at The Engine Room in Manchester, N.H. The concert was originally planned as a benefit show for a friend of Friedrich's who needs a lung transplant.

"Chris was instrumental in putting this show together, and is the only way we know how to honor his memory at this time," the band said.

In July, Beverly held its first ever block party of Cabot Street in the downtown. The event, by almost all measures, was a successful with a large crowd and great weather. The centerpiece of the event was a performance by Caspian, which has 35,000 "likes" on Facebook.
