When Are Massachusetts' Busiest Travel Days of the Year?

Believe it or not, Mother's Day is among the busiest travel days.

The state's Department of Transportation today advised motorists to expect heavy traffic, particularly on the Massachusetts Turnpike and the Cape Cod approaches, leading into Mother’s Day weekend.

The Friday before Mother’s Day ranked second only to the Friday before Columbus Day with the most toll transactions logged in a single day in 2013 with 698,481 transactions, according to the release.

When's the worst traffic day? October 11, 2013 ranked first with more than 700,000 transactions.

These figures include an accounting of all toll road transactions including the Massachusetts Turnpike, the Tobin Bridge and the Harbor Tunnels. The report pointed out that Fridays in the warm weather months consistently make up the top ten.
