UPDATED: Beverly Sees Its First 'Baby New Year'

Beverly Hospital reports the first local birth of 2013 was a girl at 5:44 a.m.

The first reported birth of 2013 in town took place at Beverly Hospital at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Beverly Hospital told Patch.com in a Tuesday morning phone conversation that the baby, a girl, was born at North Shore Birthing Center, on the hospital's campus, and is now at the hospital itself. She was reportedly 19 inches long.

The North Shore Birth Center, located on the campus of Beverly Hospital, welcomed Kaia Camilla DeCastro at 5:44 a.m. on January 1, 2013, weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 19-inches long.   Her proud parents are Emily and Flavio DeCastro of Gloucester, MA.   Flavio DeCastro works in the Physical Plant Department at Gordon College. Emily DeCastro is an occupational therapist at Northeast Home Care.   Kaia and her mother are resting comfortably at Beverly Hospital and have been visited by Kaia's brothers, Jacoby (3) and Lucas (1).   Kaia's grandparents are Janet and Ken Arndt of Windham, New Hampshire Madalena DeCastro of Brazil.   Great Grandmother, Florence Spoerer of Cumberland, RI.     The DeCastro's were presented flowers, gift cards and a gift basket to wish them well with their beautiful baby girl.
