Music, Drinks and Food Will Return to Cabot Street Saturday

The second "The Block" party is scheduled for Saturday night from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Cabot Street in downtown Beverly.

A second downtown block party is planned for Saturday after what organizers said was a successful kickoff in mid-July to the newest downtown summertime event.

"The Block," as it is dubbed, is being organized by Beverly Main Streets on Saturday, Aug. 3rd from 5:30–9:30 p.m.

After the first block part on July 13, Heather Wolsey of Main Streets said the event was deemed "a huge success" as downtown was full of energy and packed with people.

"We've gotten a large number of responses from people telling us they had a fantastic time," Wolsey said after the city's first-ever event.

Saturday's event will mean that a section of Cabot Street will be closed from Pond Street to Federal Street so that people can walk around, play games, meet up with friends, listen to live music and enjoy street food.

The weather forecast for Saturday calls for partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s in the afternoon and mostly clear skies after dark with temperatures dropping into the 70s. The weather was nearly perfect for the first block party.

Live music was a key element to the first block party, and this week Barrence Whitfield will take the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by “Froggy and the Friendship” at 7:15 pm and “Sound Association” at 8:45 p.m.

Some new food offerings will be added on Saturday, with Marino’s Cafe and Trattoria Bella Mia joining Atomic Cafe, Barrel House, Fibber McGee’s, Rowand’s Seafood, Soma and Winfrey’s.

The "Drink" the pop up bar will also return, with Salerno’s Italian Eatery selling beer and Henry’s Wine Cellar selling wine.

Whitfield recently moved back to Beverly and is a seven Boston music awards who is described as "a full-throttle soul screamer in the spirit of Little Richard, Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke."

Beverly Main Streets will also raffle off a wine basket, a craft beer basket and more.
