Hurricane Could Bring Rain, Flooding, High Surf for July 4th
Tropical Storm Arthur is headed north for the July 4th holiday, with forecasters warning that it could bring heavy rain and possible flooding.
Tropical Storm Arthur could have a close run-in with New England as a hurricane on July 4th, forecasters warn.
None of the forecasts call for the storm to make a direct hit on New England, but the National Weather Service says that it could bring "the potential for widespread heavy rain and localized flash flooding" from Thursday into Friday.
The storm was officially designated as a tropical storm on Tuesday morning with sustained winds of about 40 miles per hour off the Florida coast. It is then forecasted to move north along the eastern seaboard.

Right now, AccuWeather is warning residents along the New England coast to check the tide schedule for the holiday because flooding at the time of high tide is possible, even if the storm is far off the coast as a hurricane.
The area of greatest impact in New England will include Rhode Island, the South Coast of Massachusetts and Cape Cod.
