Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day for Beverly and Salem Residents

Clean out your house safely.

It's spring cleaning season, and many are looking to get rid of items and products they've cleared out of their houses and sheds. While it is not the day to drop off biological and radioactive waste, it is the day to clear out those cleaning agents, old tires and paints.

Beverly hosts a household waste collection day for Beverly and Salem residents only on Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Beverly High School's parking lot.

Items allowed from the house: drain cleaners, oven cleaners, furniture polish, photo chemicals, floor cleaners, dry cleaning fluid, hobby and art supplies, mercury waste.

Items allowed from the yard: pesticides, herbicides, rodent killers, insect spray, pool chemicals, muriatic acid, no-pest strips, cesspool cleaners, propane tanks

Allowed from the garage: antifreeze, brake fluid, wax polish, engine and radiator flushes, transmission fluid, car batteries, fuels, gasoline, kerosene

And from the workbench: rust preventers, wood preservatives, wood strippers, oil based paints and stains, paint thinners, solvents, degreasers, sealants, creosote

What is not allowed: TVs, monitors, electronics (electronic collection day is May 3), latex paint and driveway sealer, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, compressed gas cylinders, helium tanks, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, prescription medication (medication take back day is TBA), commercial or industrial waste, inflectional biological waste, radioactive waste, asbestos
