5 Things to Know, July 22: Deadline to Submit a Great Photo

A great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in the city.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in the city and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, July 22.

1. 70s: The temperature is expected to stick in the 70s on Monday, giving us the first “cool” weekday in a while even as the humidity sticks around. The sky will be cloudy most of the day with a chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon.

2. Photos: If you’ve got a great photo of Beverly, or another spot on the North Shore, Monday is your last chance to enter a contest to have it featured on Facebook. U.S. Rep. John Tierney is running a contest to come up with a photo at the top of his Facebook page. All photo entries from the Sixth Congressional District should be sent to TierneyPhotoContest@gmail.com by the end of the day on Monday to be considered for the contest. Some of the entries so far are on display on Tierney’s Facebook page.

3. Supermoon: There’s another Supermoon on Monday night - a new or full moon that occurs at or near its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit, according to EarthSky.com. July's occurrence will actually be the third "supermoon" of the year. Keep a look out for it, but the sky is expected to be cloudy Monday evening which could possibly obscure the view of the large, bright moon.

4. Candidates: Monday is the deadline for political action committees and legislative candidates to submit expense reports to the state’s Office of Campaign and Political Finance. Only legislative candidates and PACs are required to submit reports on their first half spending in what is an “off” year for state elections.

5. Market: The Beverly Farmers Market returns again on Monday afternoon alongside Veterans Memorial at Odell Park and Beverly Depot. The market runs from 3-7 p.m. and sets up along Park Street and Railroad Avenue between the depot and post office. There will be live entertainment from 4-6 p.m. The items in season right now include tomatoes, greens and summer squash.
