Scott Brown Will Not Run for U.S. Senate

Who do you think should be the Republican candidate?

Scott Brown ended speculation Friday afternoon as to whether he would run for U.S. Senate, announcing that he is not entering the race for the seat left vacant by John Kerry’s confirmation to the post of Secretary of State.

Two Democratic political opponents – Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) – will face off in the April 30 primary with the special election set for June 25.

There are currently no Republican candidates in the race.

Markey, who represents the 5th Congressional District, kicked off his campaign in December. Lynch launched his bid with a formal announcement Thursday afternoon. Lynch represents the 8th Congressional District.

No North Shore communities are in either district.

With Brown out, which Republican would you like to see run? Leave your thoughts in the comment field below.

Bruce Tarr would make an excellent candidate. Bright, articulate, centrist, younger than Ed Markey.

Brown can't afford another election based on the fact that he has been wearing the same coat for 5 years. How long before Gail Huff is back on channel 5?

Don't blame him, the job is only for a year until you run again. Forget it. And, after this state preferred a limo liberal fake Indian, why bother. Go get a job and make some bucks. Elected office is chump job

There are no conservative candidates--none can win in Massachusetts.
Every Republican remaining would be a Democrate Lite. Probably best of a moderate lot would be Muffy Healy, Mitt's ex Lieutenant Governor.

Let the Dems fight it out..if it's only for a year, why bother, costly and useless. No one who gets elected can do anything anyway. I'd like to see Tsiei, but it's too soon to put him through that crap again

If Brown entered this race, it would have been his third in three years — and another loss could have meant a crushing blow to his political career.

Lets see, we have sent to Congress a fake Indian, a wannabe submarine captain from Hyannis, a gigolo who tosses fake medals over federal fences, a child molester, a tax evading offshore casino money launderer, a personal friend of Fidel Castro, a convicted felon, a landlord of prostitutes and pot growers, etc. So what is left for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and voters to send to Washington to represent us....a felonious clown with a drug problem?

The dems and all the liberal do gooders are driving this country and state straight to ruin..all these elections are bought and paid for with either union or welfare giveaways and the people who actually work and support these layabouts next best bet is to just watch them ruin themselves and hopefully we can pick up the pieces..its to bad we had a heck of a country but its fast becoming a disgrace.

Liberal progressives believe changing language changes reality, - there is no difference between men and women, ..the Middle East is great thanks to Hilarious Clinton, ..the dent, the economy,,...all terrific.
However,..reality paints a much different picture.

Agree with Thomas, perhaps a gubernatorial run bring some balance to this socialist state.... is this what the founding fathers intended, one party rule...

The founding fathers didn't want parties at all. And lets not forget they wrote slavery into the document so an appeal to their wisdom, while helpful at times, isn't always the final word.

We've had one party rule for a long time Mike, The Republicans and Democrats are no longer that far from each other philosophically. The Tea Party is dead and was never an organization. The democrats couldn't even get that right. The Tea Party was a small conservative movement that died out in the last Presidential campaign. All we have left are Rino's and Democrats. For the most part, this state and most of the blue states are one party states. It will remain like this until we have a real crash, not like the one in 2008. But a real crash of our system, unfortunately. Housing took a hit on the last hit, but to have a real crash, it has to effect everything. Shut down Malls and all Commercial properties. This never happened around here at all, a little in Florida, Detroit was the city which took the biggest hit.

Right now, Republicans don't stand a chance, either because 1) the machine got getting the vote out right, or 2) there's voter fraud beyond our wildest imaginations afoot.

As an independent, I don't like RINOs, because I would rather take a Democrat who doesn't make any bones about what he or she is, than someone who calls themself a Republican and follow the vox populi. I must be an idealist or something to think that an honest Bolshevik is more respectable than a wheeler-dealer RINO.

I can't believe I just wrote that... I think it's time to lie down...

Other than wild and unsubstantiated crybaby claims by the Tisei committee, what basis is there to prove voter fraud?

Brown's only shot was to hope people don't come out and vote this summer. That's why he won 2010, and it was turnout that beat him in 2012. Maybe the cynicism of this approach finally dawned on him.

The Republican party could make a smart move, draw national attention. With only 13% representation in the Commonwealth. Republicans should not put up a candidate at all and declare Massachusetts as a One Party State. This would draw National Attention and address the lack of a two or multi-party system in this country. In reality, there is only a one party representation in Massachusetts. Sometimes it's better to follow the wisdom of, "The Gambler". To waste time and resources challenging a flawed system, to be a part of this system is worse than challenging the same.

Ironic that the state that brought you the Boston Tea Party and the very concept of rising up against taxation without representation now offers no representation for republicans.

Unfortunately it's the people, byproducts of dysfunctional families, dysfunctional government and dysfunctional politics. What can anyone expect but a flawed government. Hypocrisy seems to be the one constant, taking over political dogma.
No one can criticize Duval Patrick for explicitly spelling out his desire for an African American to fill John Kerry's seat. What a racist comment. The Tea Party was in Boston but was never and is never an organized party now. I don't know why people keep addressing the Tea Party which is non-existent and is not and organized party or movement. It's a dead idea which started a few years ago to rebel against Big Government and it failed. So as President Obama says so poignantly, it's time to move on, move forward.
