A major fuel leak was the result of a dump truck crashing into the Cummings Center parking garage Wednesday morning.

Beverly Police and Fire shut down McKay Street as they assessed the approximate 25-50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled when the truck, traveling west on Elliott Street, crashed into the garage.

The businesses in that building have been evacuated for precautionary reasons and Elliott and McKay Streets have been shut down as well, Beverly Police spokesman Dave Costa said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Mass. State Police.
